In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the global tourism landscape has undergone seismic shifts, and Hong Kong has felt the reverberations. Now, as the world tiptoes toward a sense of normalcy, the Nepalese community in Hong Kong is cautiously gearing up for a rekindling of travel opportunities. With a blend of enthusiasm and caution, many are yearning to revive the exuberant travel days of yore. However, in a world reshaped by the pandemic, navigating this new terrain requires thoughtful planning and careful consideration, particularly for those who possess Permanent HKID, Non-Permanent HKID alongside their Nepalese passports.
The Nepalese community has been an integral part of Hong Kong’s multicultural fabric since late 1990s. Despite being Permanent HKID holders, community members often encounter a unique challenge—being perceived as Nepalese citizens by other nations due to our passport affiliations. This distinctive situation has catalyzed a pioneering initiative led by MIG ALPHA. MIG ALPHA is dedicated to facilitating outbound journeys for Nepalese individuals from Hong Kong to a spectrum of captivating worldwide destinations.
As wanderlust reawakens and adventures beckon, MIG ALPHA is at the forefront, helping Nepalese residents chart their journeys once again. Yet, in this new era of changed visa policies and evolving requirements, embarking on a seamless travel experience demands careful navigation. Here are some key considerations to ponder before embarking on your next escapade:
- Check Visa Status and Validity:
If you’re not a holder of Permanent HKID, be sure that your visa remains valid for a minimum of three months from your intended travel date. This requisite is often a fundamental criterion for entry across borders.
- Strategic Timing for Documents:
Circumvent the end-of-month rush. Many countries stipulate a three-month bank statement as a means of validating your financial stability. To ensure a smooth process, submit your visa application well in advance. There might be additional document request of updated bank statement if you submit at the end of month delaying your visa approval.
- Financial Vigilance:
Sustaining a robust bank balance is crucial. Some destinations, such as Korea, necessitate consistent financial substantiation, often amounting to HK$ 20,000 throughout a span of three months.
- Document Vigilance:
Ensure that your necessary documents are readily accessible. If your bank balance falls below the required threshold, consider leveraging resources from immediate family members. Keep important certificates like marriage and birth documents safely archived.
- Communication with your employer:
Maintain open channels with your employer and ensure that you obtain a timely job letter aligned with the specific requirements of the embassy. Some of your company required more time to process your job/leave letters. Try to get the letters ub the format of the Consulate or Embassy.
- Passport Expiry Mindfulness:
Beyond the convenience of Permanent HKID in your daily Hong Kong life, remember that this status does not necessarily confer the same privileges in other countries. Keep your passport current and up to date. Most of the countries do not accept visa application if it expires within 6 months.
- Digital Transition:
Embrace the digital shift. Almost all visa applications are now processed online, obviating the need for in-person submissions. However, not fully digitalised. You still need to physically visit Visa application centers to apply or to provide biometrics. Walk-in are not entertained, so book appointment after online submission of application.
- Strategic Planning:
Strategic planning is applicable to all but for the Nepalese passport holders, meticulous planning is a hallmark. Recognize that despite Permanent HKID status, international travel necessitates thorough preparation, particularly considering the complexities of retaining Nepalese passport.
